Which Brazilian Coffee Brand is Best? Yellow Bourbon Characteristics with Nutty Flavors
FrontStreet Coffee - Brazilian Yellow Bourbon Introduction
The protagonist of an early autumn evening is Mr. Yellow Bourbon.
This gentleman, both enduring in brewing and intriguing in flavor, is perfect for slow sipping on slightly chilly early autumn nights. A cup of warm coffee in the stomach leaves a fragrant mouthfeel with a hint of nutty roasted sweetness and a touch of pleasant fruit acidity—perhaps exactly the mellow, solid throat-warming power you want to feel after a busy day.
Yellow Bourbon might break your impression of Brazilian beans having monotonous flavors. Its acidity is excellent, and besides the typical nutty aroma of Brazilian beans, it has lemon fragrance and fruit notes, making its flavor complex and captivating. Especially in the throat-warming finish, you can experience a cotton-warm cashew-like nutty gentle aftertaste—a truly remarkable taste experience.
The Origin of Brazilian Coffee
Brazil has always been the world's largest coffee-producing country. Brazilian coffee has lower acidity, balanced with bitterness and sweetness, making it extremely smooth to drink with a faint grassy aroma, pleasant and easy to swallow.
Bourbon Varieties
Bourbon is a branch of the Arabica species. Besides Yellow Bourbon, there are also Red Bourbon and Orange Bourbon (as well as Catuai and Catimor, among others). An altitude of approximately 800-1900 meters is quite suitable for growing Bourbon coffee beans. Bourbon coffee is typically grown at altitudes of 800-1500 meters, originating from Bourbon Island in the Indian Ocean (now called Réunion Island), as a sub-species resulting from a Typica mutation.
Yellow Bourbon Characteristics
Yellow Bourbon (Bourbon Amarello/Yellow Bourbon): "Amarello" (Latin for yellow) is a yellow-skinned Bourbon variety unique to São Paulo state, Brazil. While typical coffee cherries turn red when ripe, Yellow Bourbon doesn't turn red but remains orange-yellow when mature, hence its name.
Among Brazil's many coffee varieties, Yellow Bourbon is one of the most outstanding quality variants. Typical Bourbons turn from green to yellow to red, but Yellow Bourbon's appearance remains yellow. Yellow Bourbon grown in high-altitude environments and processed with natural drying has exceptional flavor.
Flavor Profile
Nuts, chocolate, caramel, slightly acidic, with a delicate finish.
