Ideal Growing Conditions

Climate: Within the tropics, relatively cool climate, frost-free winters. Typically, different coffee varieties have slightly different sunlight requirements, and appropriate shade can sometimes enhance the complexity of coffee flavor.

Rainfall: Moderate rainfall, with annual precipitation of 1500~2259mm.

Soil: Well-drained soil, with volcanic ash soil being most suitable.

Altitude: Most areas are distributed between 200~2000m altitude. Generally, the higher the altitude, the better. Premium coffees are mostly produced from highlands or mountains. Some Central American growing regions even use altitude to grade coffee quality.

Yunnan: China's Premier Coffee Region

Yunnan boasts a long history and culture, magnificent scenery, and abundant natural resources. It is renowned as the "Kingdom of Plants," "Kingdom of Animals," and "Kingdom of Non-ferrous Metals." It is also China's largest coffee production base, with Yunnan's coffee planting area and production accounting for over 99% of the country's total. For many years, Yunnan coffee has been a key procurement target for international coffee giants.

According to expert measurements, Arabica coffee should be planted on mountainous terrain at altitudes of 800~1800 meters. If the altitude is too high, the taste becomes sour; if too low, it becomes bitter. Most Yunnan coffee is planted in the dry-hot valley regions at altitudes of 1000~2000 meters, resulting in moderate acidity, rich aroma, and mellow flavor.

The optimal regions for coffee quality should be located between 15°N and 23.5°N latitude. Southern Yunnan happens to be situated in this golden zone, characterized by low latitude, high altitude, and significant day-night temperature differences. These unique natural advantages are particularly suitable for the growth of Arabica coffee, making it the most suitable region in the country for producing high-quality coffee.

Flavor Profile

The Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau also produces coffee of excellent quality. Yunnan coffee typically has lower acidity but a rich mouthfeel and balanced flavor, often featuring notes of nuts, caramel, and even chocolate.
