Would you believe that in the mountainous regions of southern China lies the beautiful Yunnan Province, where large quantities of underrated Arabica coffee beans are grown? The average elevation of Pu'er City is 2,000 meters, where most of China's coffee beans are cultivated. In 2017, China's total coffee export reached 160.6 million kilograms, already exceeding the export volumes of Costa Rica and Papua New Guinea, becoming the 13th largest coffee exporting country.
Lincang is located in the golden belt for global coffee cultivation, with favorable climate conditions and ecological environment. It is one of China's most suitable regions for developing the coffee industry and also one of the world's high-quality coffee production areas. Rich tropical resources, diverse climate types, significant day-night temperature differences, and high air humidity create a unique natural climate environment. Combined with scientific variety layout, ecological立体套种模式, and unique production and processing techniques, these factors contribute to Lincang coffee's distinctive and stable flavor profile of "rich but not bitter, acidic but not intense, mellow and aromatic with fruit notes." The coffee quality has received full recognition from international coffee tasters.
However, due to the overall low level of industrialization in the coffee sector, the economic benefits of the industry have not yet reached their optimal state, seriously constraining the healthy development of Lincang's coffee industry. Coffee cultivation in Lincang is mostly chosen in high-altitude mountainous areas with abundant sunshine and rainfall. Backward production technology has become a bottleneck restricting the industrial development of Lincang coffee.
Focusing on building a premium coffee brand and steadfastly following the path of specialty coffee development, measures such as establishing a "coffee product quality traceability system," "registering coffee gardens," and comprehensively accelerating the development of processing techniques that align with international standards to ensure stable coffee bean quality are promoting Lincang coffee's rapid progress on the path of specialty coffee development.
In 2014, Lincang was awarded the title of "China Specialty Coffee Bean Demonstration Area" by the Coffee Bean Branch of the China Fruit Circulation Association. In 2018, it was awarded the title of "Core Production Area for Yunnan Specialty Coffee" by the Yunnan Specialty Coffee Society, marking that China's current specialty coffee bean demonstration area has settled in Lincang, making it a rising star in the coffee market.
