FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Yirgacheffe Coffee

The Yirgacheffe town has an altitude ranging from 700 to 2100 meters, with a coffee cultivation history and processing tradition spanning over a thousand years. Almost every household has coffee trees planted around their homes. Coffee is their foundation for survival and their daily beverage. High-quality light to medium-roasted Yirgacheffe offers fresh and gentle citrus acidity, jasmine floral aroma, and comfortable sweetness even without adding sugar or milk.

Although small in size, Yirgacheffe coffee from Ethiopia is graceful, elegant, sweet, and charming. As the birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia's thousand-year cultivation history and processing traditions have created high-quality washed Arabica beans. Light roasting offers unique lemon, floral, and honey-like sweet aromas, with gentle fruit acidity and citrus flavors, presenting a fresh and bright taste profile. Without milk or sugar, the rich texture and unique soft floral notes will brush across your taste buds, leaving an endless aftertaste.

Cultivation

Coffee trees are mostly planted in farmers' own backyards or mixed with other crops in their fields. Each household's production is limited, making it a typical pastoral coffee. These mountain villages are shrouded in mist, with spring-like weather throughout the year. Summer brings gentle breezes—cool without being hot, rainy without being damp—and winter avoids frost damage. These unique conditions nurture the distinctive citrus and floral notes, creating a [regional terroir].

Flavor Profile

The so-called 'Yirgacheffe flavor' refers to rich jasmine floral notes, lemon, as well as peach and almond sweet aromas and tea-like fragrances.

The tasting experience can be summarized in one sentence: as the coffee enters your mouth, a hundred flowers bloom! It's like the pleasant sensation of flowers touching your taste buds and olfactory cells. Beyond the floral notes, the delicate body (mouthfeel) feels like silk massaging your palate, creating a wonderful tactile experience.

Knowledge Point: The Arabica variety was most likely first discovered in southern Sudan, but it wasn't until it spread to Ethiopia that it gradually flourished and developed.
