Jamaica's weather, geological structure, and topography collectively provide an exceptionally ideal environment. Designated Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee can only be grown in the Blue Mountain region, located east-northeast of Kingston on Jamaica Island.

Coffee grows on mountains up to 1800 meters (approximately 6000 feet) high, which is quite high altitude for Arabica coffee. Moreover, the mountains are extremely uneven, making the harvesting process very difficult (coffee harvesting is almost entirely done by women). The trees are mainly Arabica "Geisha High Bred" varieties.

Seeds from these trees have been exported to other countries, such as Hawaii, Kenya, Papua New Guinea, and other places, but nowhere have they been able to replicate the flavor found in Blue Mountain coffee beans.

Jamaica is one of the regions with smaller coffee production volumes in the world, harvesting approximately 40,000 bags - 60 kg/bag annually (Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is actually shipped in 70kg wooden barrels, making them the last country to still use this traditional packaging method, but their production is measured by 60kg/bag, as that is the international standard for coffee production measurement). In comparison, Brazil, the world's largest coffee exporter, produces 30,000,000 bags - 60 kg/bag annually.

The Japanese have invested heavily in Jamaica's Blue Mountain coffee cultivation region and have secured 90% of the annual production share. The rest of the world must bid for the remaining 10%, which amounts to 3,500 barrels. True Blue Mountain coffee has a unique flavor, making it one of the most expensive coffees in the world. Its demand is particularly high, creating a situation where market supply cannot meet demand.

Exceptional Growing Conditions for Blue Mountain Coffee

Blue Mountain is located in the coffee belt, with its highest peak reaching 2256 meters, making it the highest peak in the Caribbean region. It boasts fertile volcanic soil, fresh and unpolluted air, a humid climate, abundant rainfall in the Blue Mountain area, year-round misty low temperatures, and an average temperature of about 20°C. All these factors create an excellent growing environment for Blue Mountain coffee.

Coffee grown in this natural environment possesses all the characteristics of fine coffee. Not only does it have a rich and mellow flavor, but the perfect balance of sweetness, acidity, and bitterness gives it a subtle high-quality acidity, with minimal bitterness that is brief and does not linger in the mouth. Upon swallowing, it transforms into a slightly sweet sensation, and the mellow throaty aftertaste leaves one wanting more. Such unique flavor has earned it a place among the "premium coffees."

Strict Definition of Blue Mountain Coffee

Only coffee that is centrally procured and processed by four legally designated estates certified by the Jamaican Coffee Industry Board (CIB) can be called Blue Mountain.

All 100% pure Blue Mountain coffee worldwide refers to coffee produced within a specific range of Jamaica's eastern Blue Mountain range. Every step of its cultivation and processing must meet the rigorous quality management standards set by the Jamaican Coffee Industry Board to be certified as "Pure Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee."
