Coffee trees are suitable for growing in tropical and subtropical regions, requiring ample sunlight and heat, environments without frost throughout the year, and precipitation levels reaching 1500-2000 millimeters. Generally, within the altitude range of 600-2000 meters, the higher the altitude, the higher the quality of coffee.
Coffee cultivation in Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, has a history of over one hundred years. Pu'er coffee has a unique flavor and is favored by world-renowned coffee companies such as Nestlé. Since 1988, the Pu'er municipal government (formerly Simao City, renamed Pu'er City in 2007) has focused on the strategic goal of building "China's Coffee Capital," promoting the rapid development of coffee cultivation. It has now become the main coffee-producing area with the largest planting area, highest yield, and best quality in the country, as well as a major distribution center for coffee trade. Currently, the city has 153 coffee fresh fruit pulping factories, 42 hulling factories, and 3 deep processing factories.
Honey processing can best preserve the original sweet flavors of ripe coffee cherries, giving the coffee subtle brown sugar notes and fruity sweetness, while the pulp flavors support red wine-toned aromas, creating a very elegant profile.
Currently in Yunnan, many coffee plantations are paying increasing attention to flavor development during coffee processing, implementing detailed data management across all aspects including cultivation, field management, harvesting, preliminary processing, and sun-drying.
