Coffee cultivation in Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, has a history of more than one hundred years. Pu'er coffee has a unique flavor and is favored by world-renowned coffee companies such as Nestlé. Since 1988, the Pu'er municipal government (formerly Simao City, renamed Pu'er City in 2007) has pursued the strategic goal of building "China's Coffee Capital," driving the rapid development of coffee cultivation. It is now the country's main coffee-producing area, with the largest planting area, the highest yield, and the best quality, as well as a major distribution center for the coffee trade. Today the city has 153 coffee fresh-fruit pulping factories, 42 hulling factories, and 3 deep-processing factories.
