FrontStreet Coffee - Yirong Estate Catimor from Menglian, Yunnan Introduction

Menglian is a phonetic transliteration from the Dai language, meaning "a good place that has been found." It is also known as the "Emerald of the Borderlands" and the "Hometown of Dragon's Blood Trees."

Menglian County has a south subtropical climate type with distinct vertical climate changes. It has no severe winters, no scorching summers, and spring-like weather throughout the year. The average annual temperature is 19.6°C, with the highest temperature reaching 36°C. The coldest months are January-February, with an average temperature of around 13°C. The average annual rainfall is 1,373 mm, with the rainy season from May to October accounting for 87.7% of the annual rainfall, with about 170 rainy days per year. The average annual sunshine duration is 2,048.6 hours. Such a natural growing environment creates the special sweetness and excellent flavor of coffee in the Menglian region.

Yirong Estate is planted in high-altitude areas ranging from 1,300 to 1,600 meters. It features a 500-mu standardized coffee production demonstration garden, with an average coffee bean yield of 120 kg per mu,辐射带动 2,500 mu. Yirong Estate completed the construction of the 500-mu standardized coffee production demonstration garden in 2017. The average yield per mu of coffee beans is over 120 kg. The production cost per mu of coffee is controlled below 1,200 yuan. Coffee revenue per mu increases by over 100 yuan.

This was the first coffee plantation estate we reached during the harvest season in January 2018. With a planting altitude of over 1,300 meters and abundant sunlight during the day, different grades of washed, natural, and honey-processed coffees showcase their excellent quality flavors under careful management by workers. Both the honey-processed and natural coffees from Yirong Estate undergo final drying on sun-drying beds.

Manual sorting and sun-drying are carried out during the peak sunlight hours around noon to ensure the flavor quality of honey-processed coffee during the sun-drying stage. This recommendation features Yirong Estate's honey-processed coffee, which not only has a rich mouthfeel and long aftertaste but also highlights a bright, warm, and balanced sweet-sour acidity rarely found in Yunnan coffee, making it truly memorable!
