FrontStreet Coffee - Emerald Red Label Geisha Coffee Introduction
The world's highest realm of coffee competition, the Panama green bean competition - Best of Panama (hereinafter referred to as BOP).
The 2019 BOP took place from May 22-25 in Boquete, Panama, and the announcement of results pushed this event to its climax.
The Story of Panama Emerald Estate
In 1964, Swedish-American financier Rudolph Peterson retired, moved to Panama, and bought the Emerald Estate in Boquete, focusing primarily on dairy farming.
In 1973, his son Price Peterson obtained a PhD in neurochemistry in the United States and returned to Boquete to assist his father in running the farm. After taking over, the son segmented the market into three major brands based on altitude, microclimate, cupping performance, and planting varieties (Esmeralda Special / Diamond Mountain grows / Palmyra). Since 2012, Geisha was added, becoming the fourth major brand.
Geisha participated in auctions in 2004 and became an overnight sensation with astonishing prices.
At the 2017 BOP auction for Panama specialty coffee, a batch of natural-processed Geisha from Emerald Estate fetched $601 per pound, approximately 8,900 RMB per kilogram of green beans.
FLYKOI's coffee quality has always maintained a very high level, mainly because the owners have traveled to producing regions, tasting thousands of beans day after day, and finally selecting the best results. Therefore, the staff are very confident about every carefully selected coffee bean in their shop. More importantly, they want to convey the concept that "coffee doesn't have to be expensive!" Specialty coffee is not for showing off, but for daily life. Affordable prices sell coffee, not space, and they are committed to creating a trendy specialty coffee brand for young people.
Panama Emerald Estate Red Label Geisha - Something Every Coffee Enthusiast Should Experience
When FLYKOI's owner went to Panama's Emerald Estate for cupping this March, the estate owner introduced this batch as beans intended for the BOP competitive auction. Although processed with yeast washing, it has the flavor profile of natural processing (strawberry, peach), and when cooled, reveals the traditional floral notes of washed Geisha.
This is a very interesting coffee. You can experience the characteristics of both natural and honey processing in one cup, while still retaining the floral notes of washed Geisha. The decision was made immediately to purchase it and share it with everyone.
The 2019 competition batch Emerald Estate Red Label Geisha (yeast processing ES-SP-02) was auctioned at $134 per pound at Emerald Estate's own auction on June 25th. Based on past experience, it's believed that at the July 17th BOP auction, it will once again attract fierce competition from all quarters and set new record highs.
Knowledge point: Geisha is one of the few coffee bean estates that conducts open auctions for registered businesses.
