FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Geisha Coffee

Rich and enchanting floral and fruity aromas, bright and captivating fruit acidity, and a lingering aftertaste that stays on your palate and tongue for a long time...

This is the new king of specialty coffee, the rising star that has taken the coffee world by storm—Geisha. In the eyes of many coffee enthusiasts, Geisha is the true goddess of coffee. The moment the name "Geisha" appears, it makes one's mouth water. Many people say that after tasting Geisha, they never want to drink anything else.

The Geisha variety was discovered in 1931 in the Geisha forest of Ethiopia and then sent to the Coffee Research Institute in Kenya. In 1936, it was introduced to Uganda and Tanzania.

In 1953, Costa Rica introduced it, and in the 1970s, Mr. Francisco Serracin from the Don Pachi estate in Panama obtained seeds from Costa Rica's CATIE and began growing Geisha coffee. Due to its extremely low yield and the need to participate in bidding, this bean can be said to be hard to come by. For a long time, not many people paid attention to Geisha. Until one day, Don Pachi originally brought it from the small town of GESHA in southwestern Ethiopia to Costa Rica, and then Geisha entered Panama along the southern route. Panama's Hacienda La Esmeralda separated it from other varieties and won the national coffee competition championship. This is how Geisha officially entered everyone's sight.

Characteristics of Geisha Coffee

Geisha coffee is particularly picky about its growing environment, requiring high altitude, cloud and shade, fertile soil, and sufficient accumulated temperature. Aurora Coffee Estate is located in the northwestern corner of Chiriqui Province, Panama, with an average altitude of 1625 meters, an annual average temperature between 16°C and 25°C, and an average rainfall of about 3500 millimeters. The plantation uses semi-shade cultivation, with tree species all from local varieties, some of which are high-altitude Hass avocado trees. It is precisely because of this unique environment and climate that the king of coffee can be cultivated.

Geisha is more precious than gold because of its extremely low yield and the need to participate in bidding, making it very difficult to obtain Geisha green beans. Before drinking Geisha, one should first smell the aroma, then take a small sip to feel it in the mouth, and after swallowing, experience the aftertaste.

Knowledge point: Geisha is one of the few coffee bean estates that holds public auctions for registered businesses.
