FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Colombian Coffee
Speaking of Colombia, doesn't it bring to mind well-preserved historical sites and monuments? Those ancient buildings such as universities, museums, observatories, and churches built in the 16th and 17th centuries. I believe anyone who has visited Colombia has been impressed by the leisurely lifestyle and friendly attitude of the local people.
It's worth mentioning that coffee also holds a very important position in this country! Colombia is currently the world's third-largest coffee-producing country, surpassed only by Brazil and Vietnam. Commercial coffee beans were first planted in 1830, and by the 20th century, coffee became the largest export agricultural crop. The mountainous terrain combined with diverse tropical microclimates provides an ideal growing environment. 75% of the total production is sold abroad, making it the most important source of foreign exchange income. And Huilan is Colombia's national treasure specialty coffee!
Colombian Huilan Coffee
Huilan County is located in the southwestern part of Colombia and is one of the main coffee cultivation areas. Because the Huilan region has mountainous terrain, and Huilan coffee is grown on the slopes of valleys at altitudes of 1400-1800 meters. Due to the terrain, cold winds cannot blow up the slopes in winter, while in summer, mountain breezes bring cool relief without high temperatures. Moreover, with sufficient rainfall and pleasant weather that feels like spring all year round, it can be said that extremely favorable conditions have been created for Huilan's growth.
In addition to the advantages of geography, it's also because Arabica beans are selectively planted during cultivation, and during harvesting, workers manually pick coffee bean fruits by climbing the mountains. After careful selection, only the most mature and plump fruits are picked.
Furthermore, the vast majority of coffee beans use wet processing, which gives them a full-bodied texture and heavier mouthfeel. Huilan coffee, with its nutty, chocolate, and caramel aromas and smooth, pleasant fruit acidity, is recognized as specialty coffee.
Of course, different roasting creates different flavors! After medium-light to medium-dark roasting, Colombian coffee surfaces have already appeared with a little dark tea color, and the acidity becomes stronger. The coffee tastes bitter with acidity, and both aroma and flavor are excellent! Very suitable for coffee lovers who like a bit of bitterness in their acidity!
While medium-dark roasted coffee achieves balanced acidity with an extremely smooth mouthfeel, like a gentleman among coffees, well-regulated and standard. This is the best choice for friends who don't drink coffee regularly;
Knowledge Point: The burlap bags will say "Excelso-Café de Colombia". Whether EP, SUPREMO, or UGQ, as long as they meet Colombian export standards, coffee burlap bags will be marked with "Excelso".
