FrontStreet Coffee - Yirgacheffe Konga Sidamo Washed G1 Introduction

The Konga Cooperative was established in 1994 and joined the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers' Cooperative Union (YCFCU) in 2002, while also serving as a washing station. Currently, this cooperative represents 1,556 small farmers, creating a micro-region where each small farmer owns an average of 1.25 acres of cultivation land. With an annual rainfall of 1,400-1,800mm, an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters, and red-brown soil, these conditions provide excellent growing conditions and abundant nutrients for coffee. In addition to growing coffee, they also cultivate economic crops such as bananas and corn.

In addition to growing coffee, these farmers cultivate more self-sufficient crops, and some also raise cattle. Acacia trees, along with Podocarpus and Cordia Africana species, provide shade for the coffee trees. Mature berries must ferment for 36 to 48 hours, with the total African sun-drying process taking about 15 to 20 days in two stages. The length of the drying process depends on weather conditions. When the coffee beans reach a moisture content of 8-12%, the batch is considered complete. This particular batch is a stunning washed Yirgacheffe that we discovered during our trip to Africa, featuring an extremely rich jasmine floral aroma and fruit fragrance, making it a must-try washed Yirgacheffe this year.
