FrontStreet Coffee - Indonesia Mandheling G1 TP SC-20UP Introduction

Renowned Single-Origin Coffee Bean with Low Acidity - Indonesia Mandheling G1 TP SC-20UP

Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic country. Arabica coffee was introduced and began cultivation during the Dutch colonial period in the 18th century. Until modern times, it has become one of the top five coffee-producing countries globally. The main producing areas are located on the three islands of Sumatra, Java, and Sulawesi.

The northern part of Sumatra Island has relatively high terrain elevation. The Aceh Province where Lake Tawar is located and North Sumatra (where Lintong is situated) around Lake Toba are the main Arabica coffee-producing regions. Lake Tawa is located in the Gayo Highlands north of Aceh Province, Sumatra. Indonesia, which straddles both sides of the equator, has a humid tropical rainforest climate with abundant rainfall and fertile volcanic loam soil that provides rich nutrients for coffee. However, due to its remote location and inconvenient transportation, coffee cultivation did not begin until 1924. Most of it is grown organically using traditional shade methods without pesticides. The local climate is humid, and after preliminary washing and fermentation of the parchment coffee, one to two days of sun exposure leaves the raw beans with a moisture content of 30%-50%. At this point, the parchment is removed first and drying continues to shorten the drying process. About another 2 days of drying time can reduce the moisture content of coffee raw beans to 12-13%.

This unique semi-washed processing method in Indonesia is locally called Giling Basah, also known as wet-hulling.
