FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Indonesian Mandheling

Some people wonder if Mandheling's rich flavor means it cannot have any acidity and must be very bitter. This is not actually the case. As a fruit, it's completely normal for coffee to have acidity. In fact, good Mandheling, especially when grown in high-altitude mountain regions, can have considerable acidity when lightly to medium-roasted. However, Mandheling's primary flavor profile tends toward deeper notes, so most roasters choose a medium-dark roast to highlight its caramel and even tobacco-like richness, during which the acidity is typically suppressed to be barely noticeable.

When tasting Mandheling, you can notice a distinct smoothness on your palate. It has lower acidity, but this acidity is still clearly discernible. The bright, subtle acidity blends with the most intense aroma, allowing you to easily experience the lively elements within its gentle richness. Additionally, this coffee has a faint earthy aroma, which some describe as the fragrance of herbal plants.

Mandheling possesses a masculine character. Drinking it creates a feeling of exhilarating freedom and unbounded roaming, a flavor that captivates men and symbolizes a spirit of resilience and courage. Some say Mandheling is rich and intense - the Caesar Emperor of coffees. Its iron hooves crush ancient desolation as it gallops across the distant horizons of yellow sands.
