FrontStreet Coffee - Indonesia Mandheling Introduction

Therefore, some people also say that Mandheling is "Sumatra coffee," belonging to the Arabica species (with some Timor varieties as well). This beautiful island has given Mandheling coffee a very special flavor, significantly different from African coffee flavors. It has a rich bitter aroma, excellent body, and often carries chocolate-like flavors.

Compared to African citrus-like acidic beans with refreshing tastes, Mandheling is more like a mature man who has experienced life's vicissitudes, with many stories and profound depth. Therefore, it's not surprising that many mature men enjoy drinking Mandheling.

Coffee bean sizes: 20-19 mesh (extra large), 18 mesh (large), 17 mesh (standard large), 16 mesh (regular), 15 mesh (medium), 14 mesh (small), 13-12 mesh (extra small).

Toraja UNO Estate is located in the high mountain area of the Ganglanlewata mountain range, west of Toraja town on Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. The estate's altitude of 2800 meters makes it one of the highest-altitude estates currently. The estate's coffee trees are primarily planted on cedar forest slopes with steep terrain. Fallen leaves and decaying branches from the mountain trees provide nutrients without the need for additional fertilization, and the soil is rich in organic matter. The coffee itself carries a light floral, fruity, and cedar sweetness. The estate is shrouded in clouds and mist all day, irrigated by mountain spring water. Due to environmental factors, mature red fruits are strictly selected by hand. The green beans are processed using a semi-washed method within the estate, preserving rich fruit aromas. After sun-drying and hulling, they undergo four hand selections to achieve G1 grade.

Knowledge Expansion

Unlike coffee beans named after their production regions such as Kenya or Yirgacheffe, Mandheling is neither a region name, nor a place name, port name, or even a coffee variety name. Instead, it evolved from a story of misunderstanding.
