FrontStreet Coffee - Kenya Coffee Bean Recommendation: Kenya AA Meru Region Washed Introduction
Kenya AA grade coffee is among the finest African coffees, characterized by its rich, full body, slight acidity, smooth flavor with hints of wine aroma. The AA grade represents Kenya's highest quality coffee beans. Kenyan coffee cultivation is mainly divided into two types: large-scale farms and cooperatives. The former typically has larger planting areas and independent coffee processing facilities. Most coffee production is completed by numerous small farmers who form coffee cooperatives. Coffees from different regions have subtle flavor variations due to microclimate differences, but overall they feature rich and intense aroma, bright and lively acidity, full and elegant body, and berry flavors.
Many coffee-producing regions in Kenya use AA grade as their highest standard. Regardless of the region, any coffee marked with AA is considered premium quality, making it an irresistible choice for coffee lovers who appreciate acidity. Today, FrontStreet Coffee would like to introduce a rare AA grade coffee from the Meru region!
Kenya Meru
Meru is a town in eastern Kenya. Meru town is located in the eastern Meru central region and is Kenya's eighth-largest city. Most of Kenya's coffee is grown on small farms and organized into cooperatives. According to the Kenya Coffee Board data, as of 2005, 700,000 small farmers were organized into nearly 600 cooperatives, with nearly 3,300 owning 2-20 hectares of land.
The highlands of this region have fertile volcanic soil (deep red and orange), mild climate, and seasonal rainfall, giving coffee beans complete growth, rich flavors, and pleasant acidity. Mature berries are harvested twice annually. The main harvesting season runs from October through the end of the year, while the secondary harvest season continues from June through late July or early August.
SL-28
Coffee varieties grown in Kenya are typically Bourbon varieties with alphanumeric names. All are designated with "SL," representing the development codes from Scott Laboratories where the strains were developed. SL-28 and SL34, identified by Scott Labs in 1931, are typical Kenyan coffee varieties. SL34 has unique citric acidity and clean sweetness. SL28 is renowned for its balanced and bright acidity.
