Kona coffee is renowned for being cultivated in the western and southern regions of the Kona district on Hawaii Island. The name "Kona" has become almost synonymous with "quality." The elevations between 150-750 meters on Hawaii Island provide the most suitable environment for coffee tree growth, which has contributed to Hawaii's coffee cultivation.
Kona coffee is processed using both washed and natural drying methods. Hawaii's clean, sweet mountain spring water provides ideal conditions for the washed processing method, which creates Kona coffee beans with bright, clear appearances and pure, fresh flavors. The washed coffee beans are then placed on large drying platforms to naturally dry in the sun. Kona is a variety of Typica, with very attractive bean shapes that are full, glossy, uniform in size, with distinct sweetness and acidity. The texture is smooth, brewing to a velvety smooth consistency with rich aroma and moderate acidity.
This time, I chose to use the Clever Dripper to brew Kona coffee to see if it reveals different flavor characteristics.
Brewing Method Record
Water Temperature: 91°C
Coffee-to-Water Ratio: 1:15
Grind Size: BG-6S
First, rinse the filter paper with water to remove any paper taste. Then grind 15g of coffee beans and pour the ground coffee into the Clever Dripper. Level the coffee bed and pour 225g of 93°C hot water to fully saturate all the coffee grounds. Let it steep for 4 minutes to allow the coffee grounds to fully extract. Whether to stir during this time depends on personal preference - if you want to speed up extraction, you can choose to use a stir stick. After the time is up, place the Clever Dripper on the sharing server, and once the coffee has finished filtering, it's ready to drink.
Flavor: Balanced mouthfeel, caramel, berry notes
