Antigua coffee is sought after by the vast majority of coffee enthusiasts simply because of its distinctive aroma. Grown on the slopes of volcanoes, it better retains its characteristics compared to Costa Rica, mainly due to its greater geographical and climatic advantages. Located in the tropics, Guatemala has a mild climate that belongs to the subtropical zone due to its high altitude. Under the influence of this climate, coffee trees flower and bear fruit more slowly than coffee trees in other parts of the world. However, the mild climate combined with fertile soil creates an excellent environment for growing coffee.
The coffee industry once operated by the Maya people once brought prosperity to Guatemala's economy and held a dominant position in the national economy. Unfortunately, Guatemala's domestic political situation has not been favorable to these coffee growers. High yields are often a sign of a country's overall economic prosperity. However, Guatemala's current coffee production has relatively declined to only 700 kilograms per hectare, while El Salvador's production is 900 kilograms per hectare, and Costa Rica's production is surprisingly high at 1,700 kilograms per hectare. Guatemala's coffee export trade is controlled by private companies, but the National Coffee Committee controls other sectors of the coffee industry.
Guatemala Antigua coffee not only has smooth, high-hardness beans and excellent quality, but also features a perfect combination of richness, acidity, and sweetness, plus a hint of smoky flavor that further emphasizes its depth and mystery.
Guatemala is located in the center of North and South America, and its geographical location holds an important position in Central America. Guatemala's land area is about 108,899 square kilometers. The country's characteristics can be divided into: highland volcanoes, lowland tropical forests, Pacific coastal volcanic sand plains, and Caribbean coastal virgin lands. Central America's Sierra Madre mountain range stretches across Guatemala from east to west, covering about 2/3 of the country, with 34 volcanoes within its borders. In this country, rivers and lakes dot the landscape, while equatorial forests and plain jungles cover the land. There are also undeveloped volcanic beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts.
Coffee produced in Guatemala belongs to one of the world's top-tier coffees, as Guatemala is characterized by high-altitude volcanic terrain, and these volcanoes are the most ideal places for cultivating coffee. Compared with other coffee varieties, tasters prefer this mixed-flavor coffee with spicy notes. The Strictly Hard Bean (SHB) from this region is a rare fine coffee - it has full-bodied beans, delicious taste, and balanced acidity. Additionally, its giant coffee beans have also brought considerable attention to Guatemala.
Today's Antigua Island is a famous coffee-producing region. Rich volcanic soil, low humidity, strong sunlight, and cool evening winds are the characteristics of the Antigua region. Three spectacular active volcanoes—Agua, Acatenango, and Fuego—form a beautiful valley landscape. The active Fuego volcano occasionally adds mysterious dust. About every 30 years, the area around Antigua Island suffers from volcanic eruptions, which provides more nitrogen to the already fertile land, and ample rainfall and sunshine make this place even more suitable for growing coffee.
Antigua Island coffee is produced at the Camana estate, where the best quality coffee is ELPulcal. Not only is it of excellent quality, but compared to other Latin American coffees, this coffee can be described as quite complete, richly layered, and an astonishingly fine product.
