FrontStreet Coffee - Nicaragua Mariana Estate Maracaturra Natural Process Introduction

Nicaragua is located in the central region of Central America and is the largest country in Central America by area. Nicaraguan culture varies across different regions. In most cases, the majority of people pursue Spanish culture, while other regions of the country are more influenced by British culture.

Nicaragua Coffee Growing Regions

Nicaragua coffee cultivation is mainly divided into four major regions: Pacific Coast region, Segovias region, Matagalpa/Jinotega region, and Boaco region.

The first coffee cherries in Nicaragua were planted in the Pacific Coast region, but most of the production comes from three regions in the northern and central mountainous areas of Nicaragua.

The Segovias region is mainly known for its floral aromas, unique flavors, and bright acidity. The cultivation altitude reaches up to 1,500-2,000 meters, producing the highest grade SHG coffee, though it is rarely sold on the market.

The Matagalpa/Jinotega region is Nicaragua's main coffee cultivation area. This region possesses rich volcanic soil, humid tropical forest climate, and dense vegetation, including various lichens, mosses, ferns, and orchids, which are favorable for coffee cultivation, particularly in the Isabelia and Dariense mountain ranges. The island of Matagalpa is generally mountainous, with elevations ranging from 600 to 1,500 meters, typically growing Caturra and Bourbon coffee varieties.
