Panama is located on the Panamanian Isthmus in Central America, bordering Colombia to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the south, Costa Rica to the west, and the Caribbean Sea to the north. The country, shaped like an S, connects North and South America. The Panama Canal runs from north to south, connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, earning it the title "World Bridge."
Panama's terrain is undulating with crisscrossing valleys. Except for the coastal plains in the north and south, most areas are mountainous. Located near the equator, it has a tropical marine climate with humid days and cool nights, with an average annual temperature of 23-27°C. The year is divided into dry and rainy seasons, with an average annual precipitation of 1500-2500 millimeters.
Panama is located in the typical coffee belt. Panama's neighboring countries are all world-famous coffee producing regions, and together with these countries, they tell the world about their deep connection with coffee.
The earliest coffee trees in Panama's history were brought in by a British captain who married a Panamanian woman in the 19th century (Gesha coffee was introduced to Panama in the mid-20th century). They first planted coffee in coastal areas, and later colonists introduced coffee to the western highland valleys where coffee was more suitable for growth.
The microclimate there is particularly suitable for coffee growth. High altitude, monsoon influences from both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, fertile volcanic ash under the Baru Volcano, and natural shade all provide unique conditions for coffee to reach its maximum potential.
Later, many different varieties were introduced to Panama from around the world, including Gesha.
