FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Panama Coffee Varieties
Geisha, originally from Geisha Mountain in southwestern Ethiopia, was later exported to Kenya, Tanzania, and Costa Rica, reaching Panama in the 1960s. There, it found the most suitable natural environment and coffee estates that pursue the highest quality. Afterward, it made a stunning impact, winning first place in the Panama National Treasure Bean Cupping Competition in 2005, 2006, and 2007, as well as the championship in the International Famous Bean Cupping Competition hosted by the American Specialty Coffee Association in 2007. In recent years, it has won numerous awards, becoming the king of the coffee world and earning Panama the reputation of a new holy land for world coffee.
Panama coffee is famous in the coffee world for the Geisha from Hacienda La Esmeralda. It can be said that Panama is a country that strives for excellence in coffee and produces high-quality coffee.
Panama coffee is famous for the Geisha from Hacienda La Esmeralda, and the producing region where Hacienda La Esmeralda is located is also quite famous; that is the Boquete region in Chiriqui Province. Boquete is a town in Chiriqui Province, located near the border between Panama and Costa Rica, close to the famous Baru Volcano. With its beautiful scenery, fertile and rich soil, and climate and soil that are very suitable for producing high-quality coffee.
Within the Boquete producing region, there are also many excellent estates. Besides the famous Hacienda La Esmeralda, there are also Elida Estate, Hartmann Estate, and Katowa Duncan Estate, all of which are renowned estates that produce high-quality specialty coffee. This not only benefits from the superior ecological conditions of the Boquete region in Panama and the fertile volcanic ash soil of the Baru Volcano area, but also from the various microclimates in the Boquete region of Panama, making its temperature and rainfall very suitable for plant growth.
Unique Flavor of Geisha:
Berry candy and spice sweetness interweave, accompanied by floral notes bursting forth, with a finish full of floral fragrance. The fruit sweetness is quite persistent, and the lower the temperature, the more delicate the acidity.
Dry Aroma:
Tea aroma, floral fragrance (magnolia, tulip), vanilla plants, milky aroma, brown sugar sweetness, high-end champagne with an uplifting fragrance.
Wet Aroma:
Apricot, caramel, milky aroma, floral fragrance.
Panama also has many other high-quality coffee beans, such as the Catuai/Catuai from Hartmann Estate that FrontStreet Coffee offers.
Hartmann Estate has over 100 years of history. This family-owned enterprise has a state-level cupping laboratory and sample roasting room, where they rigorously cup each batch of coffee beans. This ensures the stable quality of Hartmann Estate coffee and their continuous pursuit of improvement. Therefore, in addition to possessing Panama's various natural resources, Hartmann is also renowned for its meticulous management and excellent, stable quality.
The coffee varieties at Hartmann Estate are very diverse. Besides Geisha, there are also Typica, Caturra, Catuai, Bourbon, Pacamara, and others. I have chosen the Caturra/Catuai.
