Introduction to Costa Rica

The Republic of Costa Rica is a republic in Latin America, bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south. It is the first country in the world to not have an army, with its capital in San José. Costa Rica is the second smallest country in Central America, situated between Nicaragua and Panama, and its name means "rich coast."

FrontStreet Coffee's Costa Rica Musician Series

FrontStreet Coffee's Costa Rica Musician Series previously included FrontStreet Coffee Mozart, FrontStreet Coffee Beethoven, and FrontStreet Coffee Bach. Later, a new coffee bean named FrontStreet Coffee Chopin was added.

Coffee Characteristics and Processing

Research institutions in Costa Rica continuously conduct improvements, resulting in many new varieties emerging here.

Coffee beans from this region typically taste smoother and more balanced overall, with various flavors well-balanced.

Costa Rica maintains high standards in cultivation, planting, and processing methods.

FrontStreet Coffee's Bach coffee bean uses honey processing method.

Honey Processing Method

Honey processing doesn't actually use honey to process the beans. Instead, it refers to the mucilage layer of the coffee bean being like honey during processing. The honey processing method is somewhat similar to natural processing, but before sun-drying, the outer pulp and skin are removed to reduce the chance of mold. After reducing the moisture content, the dried fruit and inner parchment are then removed. The honey processing method increases the sweetness and caramel flavor of the coffee, but the processing steps are more complex than natural processing.

The advantage of the honey processing method lies in its balance of sweetness, acidity, and aroma. Overall, it's not as intense as natural processed beans, but the flavors are fresher.

I personally really like honey processed coffee beans because they don't have the obvious fermentation notes of natural processed beans, nor are they as clean-tasting as washed processed beans.
