The Origin and Excellence of Gesha Village Coffee Estate

Gesha originated from Ethiopia and was popularized in Panama. Adam, the owner of Gesha Village Coffee Estate, with the help of the renowned Don Pachi Estate owner - William Boot, found the original tree species of Gesha coffee.

Today's "Gesha Village Coffee Estate" spans three hundred hectares, with plans to add another 50 hectares next year. They cultivate Gesha varieties sourced from nearby forests and other locations, maintaining a planting density of only 2,000 trees per square hectare. In the first three years of establishing the estate, they planted thirty thousand shade trees, which not only promote better growth of coffee trees but also maintain rich biodiversity, allowing the original Gesha varieties to grow freely within this environment.

Gesha Village Coffee Estate is completely different from most Ethiopian farms - it's not a small farm but a large 500-hectare estate with its own washing station and laboratory. Located in the southwest near the Sudanese border, what makes it particularly special is that the entire farm exclusively grows Gesha varieties, rather than the typical Ethiopian heirloom varieties whose exact origins cannot be determined.

Construction of the farm began in October 2011, with the first harvest in 2015. Due to enthusiastic responses from all parties, with the assistance of Panamanian coffee farm owner Willem Boot, they held their first international auction on May 31, 2017, offering 21 micro-lots, of which 19 lots were 120 kilograms each, with several other lots being smaller. Bidders from Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia responded with unexpected enthusiasm, with the final top bid reaching $85 USD per pound, breaking all previous auction prices for African beans!
