Last Updated: 2026/01/27, Hope Estate in Colombia manually screens defective beans at a ratio of around 4%, roasts to light roast (city) level with a weight loss ratio of 14%, while empty shells and defective beans account for 6%. The fresh grassy aroma during defect sorting is like walking on grass after rain. Increasing the steaming temperature slightly with a steeper rising curve

FrontStreet Coffee's Colombia La Esperanza uses hand-sorted defective beans at a ratio of approximately 4%. When roasted to a light roast (city), the coffee beans experience a weight loss of 14%, with hollow and defective beans accounting for 6%. The fresh grassy aroma during the sorting of defective beans evokes the sensation of walking on grass after rainfall. Increasing the steaming temperature slightly and adopting a steeper heating curve during roasting preserves more aroma and sweet-acid variations—this is the correct approach for La Esperanza.

In southwestern Colombia, the Huila region is renowned for producing exceptional coffee, alongside the Narino and Tolima regions. The top 10 winners in the annual Colombia Coffee Competition almost exclusively come from these three regions, all characterized by small-scale coffee farmers with limited production and cultivation areas. La Esperanza estate, located in the Huila region, is not owned by individuals or families but represents a collective of several coffee farmers who market their coffee under the unified name of La Esperanza. The estate is distributed across forests at elevations between 1,400-1,650 meters, where coffee beans are hand-harvested at full maturity. The coffee farmers maintain excellent growing conditions and demonstrate unwavering commitment to controlling the quality of their green coffee beans. La Esperanza was the champion estate in the 2007 Colombia Coffee Competition and achieved 9th, 12th, and 14th places in 2008 (by different coffee growers). In November 2008, American coffee master Kenneth Davids (author of Coffee Review and "Home Coffee Roasting") awarded it an impressive score of 93 points, establishing it as one of Colombia's premier estates.
