Why is it Called Smart Dripper, How to Use Smart Dripper, Suitable Coffee Beans, Brewing Parameters, Coffee Bean Flavors

As one of the pour-over drippers, the Clever Dripper has not only gained wide international recognition but is also the designated brewing equipment for many specialty coffee shops. Due to its simple operation method, it allows every pour-over beginner to easily get started and brew good coffee at home. Additionally, it's very convenient to clean after use, making it one of the essential coffee brewing tools for home use.
Design and Principle
The design inspiration for the Clever Dripper comes from another product by EK INTL company used for brewing tea—HandyBrew. Immersion extraction is its biggest highlight. The Clever Dripper typically consists of two layers: an outer layer that serves as the frame supporting the dripper, and an inner layer that is the cup body with a press-type switch valve. When placed flat on a table surface, the valve remains closed, preventing coffee liquid from flowing down, keeping the coffee grounds and water in an immersed state. When the immersion is complete, the middle of the base receives pressure, causing the piston valve to open and allowing the coffee liquid to flow into the container.

Compared to direct drip-style drippers like V60, the Clever Dripper adds the function of immersion extraction, which means water and coffee grounds maintain continuous contact inside the container. Immersion extraction is less affected by pouring techniques, making it easier for beginners to replicate the basic flavor of coffee. Flavor compounds change the coffee's taste and concentration based on water temperature, coffee-to-water ratio, grind size, and immersion duration.

Advantages
The Clever Dripper can be said to combine the advantages of both the French press and pour-over drippers. It can provide the complete immersion environment of a French press while also incorporating the filtration function of pour-over drippers.
How to Use the Clever Dripper
The usage of the Clever Dripper can be very simple. You only need to place a filter paper on top, pour in coffee grounds, then inject enough hot water, wait for a few minutes, and place the Clever Dripper on a mug—the coffee liquid will automatically flow out. It's extremely convenient. Below, FrontStreet Coffee will share the process of making coffee using the Clever Dripper.
① Fold the filter paper and place it inside the Clever Dripper. Place the Clever Dripper on a container, and use hot water to wet the filter paper while simultaneously preheating the equipment.

② Move the Clever Dripper to the electronic scale (at this point, the valve will automatically close), and pour 15g of ground coffee into the center of the dripper.

In terms of parameters, FrontStreet Coffee uses a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:15, with a medium-fine grind (75% passing rate through a China standard #20 sieve). Set the water temperature to 94°C, pour in 225g of hot water, cover with the lid, and wait for 4 minutes.

After the immersion is complete, move the Clever Dripper onto the container and open the valve to filter the coffee liquid from the dripper. This completes the coffee-making process using the Clever Dripper.

Which Coffee Beans are Suitable for the Clever Dripper?
Actually, the coffee beans suitable for the Clever Dripper are the same as those for most filter coffee brewing equipment. Coffee beans used for pour-over can also be applied to the Clever Dripper. In terms of grind size, it can be the same as the recommended pour-over grind or slightly coarser. FrontStreet Coffee prefers a grind that is coarser than the pour-over grind, with a 75% passing rate through a #20 standard sieve.

For those who like floral and citrus fresh flavors, you can choose washed coffee beans from Ethiopia's Yirgacheffe and Guji regions, as well as Geisha coffee beans from Panama.
For those who enjoy the sweet sensation of fruit, you can choose honey-processed coffee from Costa Rica. For those who prefer nutty and chocolate notes, you can select coffee beans from Brazil and Papua New Guinea.
