Coffee first originated in Ethiopia, Africa. On this ancient land, the magical fruit that continues to influence the world was cultivated. When people in many parts of the world still didn't know what coffee was, the Agao people of Ethiopia were already growing and drinking it. Today, Ethiopia remains the source of many premium coffee beans, with Yirgacheffe coffee being one of them. Initially, Yirgacheffe coffee trees were cultivated by European monks (somewhat similar to Belgian monks growing grain to brew beer), later managed by farmers or cooperatives. Coffee trees are naturally scattered in forests, fields, and backyards. During harvest seasons, Ethiopian coffee trading companies go to towns to purchase coffee beans collected by farmers, ultimately auctioning and exporting them under the "Yirgacheffe" brand.
