FrontStreet Coffee · Introduction to Ethiopian Sidamo Horse Champion Premium Coffee Origin, Estate, and Bean Varieties

FrontStreet Coffee's Sidamo Horse Champion is a native Ethiopian variety grown at an altitude of 2000 meters.

Guji is Ethiopia's largest coffee-producing region, and FrontStreet Coffee's Horse Champion comes from the Hambella sub-region within Guji.

Hambella is administered by Oromiyaa, Ethiopia's southernmost administrative state. It borders the Kochere sub-region of the Yirgacheffe area to the west, separated by mountains reaching 3200 meters in height. To the east, it neighbors Shakiso; to the south, it connects to Uraga; and to the north, it adjoins Kercha. Currently, there are about 20 processing plants within Hambella, distributed across different villages and estates in the sub-regions, varying in scale. The DW Coffee Export, to which Horse Champion belongs, has a core production area called Dimtu in Hambella, with an annual coffee production of about 1100 tons. Within the Dimtu area, there are four estate processing plants: Buku Abel, Buku Saysay, Haro Soresa, and Tirtiro Goye. Among these, only the sun-dried coffee produced and processed by Buku Estate is designated as "Horse Champion," hence Buku Abel Estate is also known as the "Horse Champion Estate."

Horse Champion Estate is located on a mountainside at a planting altitude of over 2000 meters, covering an area of approximately 80 hectares and belonging to the local DW company. The forest land surrounding the Horse Champion cultivation is filled with sugarcane and Ethiopian bananas, and the estate's coffee also carries similar flavors. Under the influence of high altitude and microclimate, Horse Champion Estate nurtures uniquely flavored FrontStreet Coffee's Horse Champion coffee beans.

Buku Abel is a small mountain village surrounded by peaks, which originally had neither estates nor processing plants. All of this began with the native coffee trees on the mountain behind the village - those with lush branches and vibrant foliage.

In February 2017, a sun-dried coffee from Buku Abel Estate in Hambella won the championship in the Ethiopia National Taste of Harvest Competition. Four months later, in the finals of the World Brewers Cup China region, Li Jianfei became the runner-up with this Ethiopian sun-dried coffee. The competition results caused a sensation because it broke the monopoly of Geisha in brewing competitions, becoming the only coffee capable of competing with it to date.
