JAMAICA BLUE MOUNTAIN MAVIS BANK ESTATE NO.1
Another Blue Mountain harvest season has arrived. After traveling thousands of miles from the beautiful Blue Mountain ranges of Jamaica, we bring you the finest of coffees—Blue Mountain No.1 Mavis Bank Coffee.
The Blue Mountain Region
The Blue Mountain range is located in the eastern part of Jamaica. When the weather is clear, the sea surrounding the Caribbean reflects brilliant blue light onto the mountain peaks, giving the range its name. The highest peak of Blue Mountain reaches 2,256 meters above sea level, making it the highest peak in the Caribbean region and a famous tourist destination.
This region is situated in the coffee belt, featuring fertile volcanic soil, fresh air free from pollution, and a humid climate with year-round fog and rainfall (average precipitation of 1,980 mm and temperature around 27°C). Such climate conditions have created the world-renowned Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee, as well as the second most expensive coffee in the world. This coffee possesses all the characteristics of fine coffee—not only is it rich and mellow in flavor, but due to the perfect balance of sweetness, acidity, and bitterness, it has no bitter taste at all, with only moderate and perfect acidity.
Authenticity and Quality Control
With the globalization of Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee's reputation and the worldwide introduction of Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee cultivation, numerous imitation Blue Mountain flavored coffees have appeared in the market, seriously affecting the outstanding reputation of authentic Blue Mountain coffee. The Jamaican government strongly advocates that Blue Mountain coffee be roasted and packaged for export within the country, rather than exported as raw beans, to avoid the impact of imitation Blue Mountain flavored coffees. The importance of this measure lies in the Jamaica Coffee Board's ability to monitor every aspect of Blue Mountain coffee exports, ensuring the purity and high quality of Blue Mountain coffee.
Blue Mountain coffee continues to be high-quality Blue Mountain produced by the Mavis Bank factory.
MavisBank Central Factory (M.B.C.F.)
On the majestic Blue Mountains in eastern Jamaica, as dawn breaks through the morning mist, the rural town of Mavis Bank comes into view. This is the source of Jamaica's noble "black gold"—the home of Mavis Bank Central Factory and the origin of the world's beloved Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee.
Deep in the Blue Mountain foothills at approximately 3,000 feet above sea level lies the only factory with complete processing equipment that transforms coffee cherries into beverage. Cecil Augustus Munn was the first to plant and process Blue Mountain coffee on Strawberry Hill. His son Victor established Mavis Bank Central Factory in 1920, further expanding this business. Victor's nephew Keble inherited the family tradition and legacy. Mr. Keble Munn is Jamaica's former Minister of Agriculture, Jamaica's first certified coffee cupper, and recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Specialty Coffee Association of America.
Under Mr. Munn's leadership and with the support of certified coffee cupper and operations manager Mr. Norman Grant, Mavis Bank Factory has undergone years of continuous improvement and now produces 40% of the island's Blue Mountain coffee. With special skills and high enthusiasm, the Munn family produces the highest quality coffee. Their coffee beans carry the M.B.C.F. (Mavis Bank Central Factory) trademark. Over 70% of the coffee produced by Mavis Bank Central Factory is exported, mostly in barrels clearly marked with M.B.C.F.
Mavis Bank remains a place where time seems to stand still. It's in a corner of the world where modern conveniences have been set aside on this undamaged land. Simple sounds and minimal temperature variations are amplified. Due to the ideal combination of altitude, mineral-rich soil, floating clouds, mountain shadows, and ample sunlight, coffee berries grown on Blue Mountain take longer to mature than other coffees. Some believe this extra time allows its rich flavor and unique aroma to develop. Others think the additional time allows its distinctive characteristics to emerge.
