Lot No. 1 - Franklin Adonias Madrid

This farm was established by Mr. Esteban Madrid Chavez in 1978, when he actually bought the land and began planting coffee. The farm is now owned and operated by his sons and grandsons, who work on different plots, with one parcel belonging to Franklin. He works on the farm year-round, employing manual weed control, shade regulation, and continuously collecting samples for plague and pest control. He applies granular fertilizer in March and a second application in August, also using pulp as fertilizer. Due to his high altitude, the farm has no plague problems, but he always takes careful precautions to prevent this issue.

Due to excessive moisture, he uses only 10% shade on the farm, utilizing fruit trees but primarily other fruit-bearing trees. He begins harvesting coffee in February and concludes in May. He always gives a speech before the harvest begins to encourage his pickers. Most coffee is transported by pickers to distant vehicles. He uses water-efficient wet mill machinery to remove mucilage, with water sources provided by Santa Barbara National Park, complying with all pollution regulations stipulated by law.

Franklin dries this coffee on patios and screens. He believes the key to success lies in continuous training of his workers and constantly planting trees on and around the farm. His entire family has environmental awareness and protects nature. They have placed signs around the plantation to protect forests, water sources, and wildlife. The coffee crisis prices affected him and his family, leading them to reduce coffee production and manual labor on farm activities.
