Imagine having your own private volcano. Carlos Batres has been growing coffee for over 30 years. He lives and farms daily on the slopes of Monte Carlo volcano, a private volcano located in the Apaneca region of El Salvador. Monte Carlo Estate has over 688 hectares of land surrounding the volcano, planted with many different varieties of coffee beans. The estate contains 340 hectares of forest protection area, and such a unique landscape provides excellent growing conditions for coffee trees—a microclimate surrounded by clouds and mist year-round, high altitude, and nutrient-rich volcanic soil. Shade-grown coffee trees are arranged in rows on the slopes, extending all the way to the volcano's edge. Ripe cherries are hand-picked and processed using traditional family-run processing facilities passed down since the 1870s. The coffee beans are washed three times with clear, sparkling spring water and dried under the sky, creating bright, pleasant, and exciting coffee flavors.

The label's inspiration comes from coffee trees growing around the volcanic crater. Good drainage and fertile volcanic soil allow coffee to grow in the best environment. The label incorporates numerous topographic and soil maps—aerial views of the volcano representing different types of terroir, altitude, and texture. The vibrant color palette is inspired by traditional Salvadoran clothing and wildlife. The printed volcano's golden silhouette and porous texture evoke the appearance of volcanic rock.

FrontStreet Coffee suggests brewing this Salvadoran coffee with water at 88°C to bring out its citrus and dark chocolate flavors.
