FrontStreet Coffee Yunnan Peaberry Introduction:
"Coffee is an evergreen small tree or shrub of the Rubiaceae family, with long oval leaves that are pointed at the front and white flowers. Approximately 70 countries worldwide produce coffee, primarily distributed between 25 degrees north and 25 degrees south latitude. This region mostly belongs to tropical and subtropical climates, and climate is the decisive factor in whether coffee can be grown. Some say that the area between 25 degrees north and south latitude, that is, between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, is the ideal zone for growing coffee, often called the 'coffee belt' or 'coffee region'."
The world's most renowned coffee-growing regions are mostly concentrated in this zone, such as Ethiopia, Kenya, Indonesia, Hawaii, and there is also a type of coffee bean that I will introduce below: the peaberry. It occupies the entire internal space of the coffee berry, looking like two slightly smaller flat beans stuck together; this type of bean is called peaberry, often appearing on the tops of young coffee trees. Peaberry production generally accounts for only 5% of a coffee tree's yield. FrontStreet Coffee's Yunnan Peaberry green beans grow at an altitude of 1200-1500 meters on the Gaoligong Mountains beside the Nu River Gorge.
Characteristics of Peaberry Coffee
Peaberry (single-seed bean) itself is the result of a mutation and deformity, so it is naturally not very uniform. If you see very uniform single-seed beans, it is due to high-quality post-processing and sorting. Most coffee beans consist of two halves of flat beans, with only a few unique ones forming into a single peaberry. This may be due to special growth conditions, and the flavor is naturally somewhat special compared to flat beans - more concentrated in volume and more concentrated in flavor. Because peaberry coffee contains the nutrients of two half coffee beans, its flavor is richer than that of ordinary flat beans. Due to the growth characteristics and very low yield of peaberries, their price is higher than that of ordinary flat beans.
