Ruvuma: Tanzania's Southern Coffee Region
Ruvuma is located in the southernmost region of Tanzania, where coffee is cultivated at altitudes ranging from 1,300 to 1,800 meters. The coffee grown in volcanic soil, nourished by the famous Ruvuma River, imparts Tanzania's Ruvuma region coffee with a distinctive wine-like aroma and fruit fragrance.
The Ruvuma River stretches approximately 800 kilometers and is one of Tanzania's major waterways.
Coffee Processing and Quality Control
Tanzanian coffee beans undergo meticulous processing. They are first sorted by screen size, followed by manual removal of insect-damaged and inferior quality beans. Professional coffee roasters then apply light to medium roasting techniques. After roasting, the beans undergo another manual selection process to remove any poorly roasted beans, ensuring only the highest quality coffee reaches consumers.
Distinctive Flavor Profile
Grown by local small-scale farmers in Africa's Tanzania, these Ruvuma coffee beans offer a unique wine-like aroma that will surprise you with its indistinguishable red wine fragrance. When cooled, the aroma transforms into a subtle cherry fragrance - truly unexpected. Throughout the cultivation process, no pesticides are used and pests are controlled manually, guaranteeing excellent quality and taste.
FrontStreet Coffee recommends brewing with a grind setting similar to Fuji #4 at approximately 88°C water temperature. During brewing, the coffee exhibits a prominent red wine aroma. Upon tasting, a subtle nutty bitterness fills the palate, while the aftertaste is dry without astringency. When cooled, the bitterness diminishes and the wine characteristics become more pronounced, making it an excellent coffee to enjoy from hot to cold.
