Tanzanian Coffee Heritage

In the early 16th century, coffee was introduced to Tanzania from Ethiopia, but it wasn't until the late 19th century that coffee was popularized by German missionaries.

Tanzania has a total of 11 coffee-producing regions, and when it comes to Tanzanian coffee beans, Mount Kilimanjaro coffee is undoubtedly the most famous. However, only the Arusha and Moshi regions can be considered as Mount Kilimanjaro coffee.

Today's featured selection—Tanzania Chagga—comes from the Moshi region and belongs to the Mount Kilimanjaro coffee category.

The Story Behind Chagga Coffee

The name of this specialty coffee pays tribute to the local Chagga people. It is through the diligence of the Chagga people that we have the opportunity to taste this rich and wonderful coffee.

The Chagga people have lived on Mount Kilimanjaro for hundreds of years and deeply love this land.

Tanzania Chagga coffee mainly comes from two small-scale cooperatives: Marangu East and Mivikani North.

Each small farmer handles their family's coffee beans with great care and attention to detail.

Chagga Coffee Processing

The general harvesting, processing, roasting, and preparation process of the Chagga people:

Coffee berry harvesting → Coffee bean hulling → Washing and fermentation → Drying

Design Inspiration

The card design is inspired by the farms/regions where the coffee beans grow. A series of small objects are woven together to create a large-scale agricultural topographic map of Tanzania Chagga. The fabric used in the design reflects the characteristics of the coffee-producing region, with its rich warm tones representing the harmonious coexistence of banana trees and coffee trees in the farms managed by Chagga growers.
