Nicaragua | Hidden Estate Natural Low-Caffeine Laurina Variety | Honey Process Lot 1802 Flavor Profile?
Laurina, also known as Bourbon Pointu, contains only about 0.6% caffeine. Regular Arabica varieties typically contain between 1-1.2% caffeine, while Robusta varieties exceed 2%. To confirm the caffeine content, we specially sent this batch of Laurina along with other varieties from the same estate for testing. The results confirmed that the rumors are true! Laurina's caffeine content is indeed 40-50% lower than traditional Arabica varieties! This is great news for low-caffeine enthusiasts! Typically, low-caffeine coffee comes from chemical processing, water processing, or carbon dioxide treatment methods. Chemical processing raises concerns, while water or carbon dioxide processed low-caffeine coffee often suffers from flavor loss. Now that naturally low-caffeine Laurina has entered the market, it not only meets market demand but also satisfies low-caffeine consumers' expectations for high-quality flavor!
The rise of Laurina is thanks to the persistent Japanese coffee experts and UCC Coffee, who discovered and cultivated this variety from Réunion Island! This Laurina comes from Nicaragua's Hidden Estate, located near Lake Apanas in Jinotega province and owned by the Mierisch family! The Mierisch estates are located either in this area or on the other side in Matagalpa. The estate is named "Hidden" because it's surrounded by numerous trees and adjacent to a large forest, hence the name "Hidden Estate" (Finca La Escondida).

FrontStreet Coffee Brewing Recommendations:
Dripper: Hario V60
Water Temperature: 90°C
Grind Size: Fuji Royal grinder setting 3.5
Brewing Method: 1:15 water-to-coffee ratio, 15g coffee. First pour with 25g water for 25s bloom. Second pour to 120g water then pause. Wait until the water level drops to half, then slowly pour to 225g total. Extraction time around 2:00.
Analysis: Using a three-stage brewing method to clearly distinguish the front, middle, and back-end flavors of the coffee. Because the V60 has many ribs and drains quickly, pausing the pour helps extend extraction time.
