Colombia: The World's Largest Producer of Quality Coffee!

Traditional deep-roasted coffee possesses a rich and memorable flavor.

In 1808, coffee was first introduced to Colombia by a priest who brought it from the French Antilles via Venezuela. Today, the country is the second-largest producer after Brazil, with an annual output of 13 million bags (60 kg each), compared to Brazil's 22 million bags. The significance of coffee in Colombia is evident from the fact that all vehicles entering the country must be spray-disinfected to prevent inadvertently bringing diseases that could harm coffee trees.

Colombian Coffee: Quality and Excellence

Colombian coffee is one of the few original coffees sold in the world under a country name. In terms of quality, it has received acclaim unmatched by other coffees. The country is the world's largest exporter of Arabica coffee beans, with Robusta coffee rarely cultivated. It is also the world's largest exporter of washed beans. Compared to other producing countries, Colombia shows greater concern for product development and production promotion. This, combined with its superior geographical and climatic conditions, makes Colombian coffee high-quality, delicious, and renowned worldwide.

Coffee Growing Regions

The country's coffee production areas are located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, where the climate is mild and the air is humid. Colombia has three Cordilleras (mountain systems) running north-south, extending toward the Andes. Coffee is planted along the highlands of these mountain ranges. The mountain slopes provide diverse climates, which means harvesting occurs year-round, with different types of coffee maturing at different times. Fortunately, unlike Brazil, Colombia doesn't need to worry about frost damage. Colombia has approximately 2.7 billion coffee trees, of which 66% are planted using modern cultivation methods in plantations, while the rest are grown in traditional small farms.

Agua Sarca Village, Cauca Region, Colombia

Agua Sarca Village is located in the central Cordillera Mountains, approximately 100 kilometers northeast of Popayan and 30 kilometers west of Monserrate, near the border between Huila and Cauca provinces. This mountainous coffee-growing region has been fraught with turmoil for the past few decades due to political instability and drug trafficking.

Despite these dangerous conditions, coffee grown in this region is one of the most exciting and vibrant specialty coffees in Colombia, thanks to the varied mountain terrain and microclimates.

Agua Sarca Village coffee typically features notes of ripe citrus and the deep cherry-red character of Monserrate coffee, with rich tropical fruit flavors such as pineapple and orange.
