Panama Coffee Excellence
The Best of Panama and Hacienda La Esmeralda have gained global attention not only for the appeal of the coffee itself but also for their astonishing astronomical prices. Some small farms producing Geisha varieties attract global coffee enthusiasts with their unique floral aromas. Panama produces excellent coffee not only with Geisha varieties - most coffee varieties are Typica and Caturra, with coffee grown in almost all regions. Panama coffee has strong floral aromas and clean fruit flavors, with cupping quality far exceeding other expensive coffees, offering amazing flavors and stable quality.
Panama coffee is widely used in both specialty and commercial roasting, but the market is flooded with many low-altitude Panama beans that don't interest us. What catches our attention are some family-run small farms in the Chiriqui district's Boquete region. They truly produce distinctive coffee cherries. During harvest season, farms hire local Ngöbe-Buglé indigenous people, following Central American labor laws with reasonable wage standards.
The reputation and success of honey-processed coffee from Panama's Chiriqui district Boquete region comes from Emporium Estate and Los Lajones Estate, both owned by the Graciano Cruz family. The farm was named in 2007, with the 14-hectare farm divided into three parts co-owned by the three Cruz brothers. 40 years of growing various crops has created the source of today's diverse tree species. Coffee is not the farm's only crop - half of the agricultural products are oranges, citrus, lemons, guavas, and avocados. During flowering season, all flowers bloom like a large garden, with different fragrances and colors intermingling. The Panama natural coffee produced by the farm is rare, unique, and distinctive.
