Francisco Esteban Mejia has dedicated his life to protecting this verdant highland farm. After his son graduated from university, he returned to his hometown to continue the family legacy. Coffee trees are their entire life. This contented family doesn't understand the coffee market, but they deeply know that standing on their land brings stability, and only through dedicating their hands can they reap rewards.

Since joining the COCAFELOL cooperative, Francisco has worked diligently to improve his cultivation techniques. To protect the forest, he avoids cutting down surrounding trees and doesn't use fertilizers or pesticides. This approach protects the natural environment, allows the land to receive rich nutrient nourishment, and with technical improvements, coffee quality continues to get better. With the cooperative's help, he obtained Fair Trade and organic certifications.

Every winter, Francisco's entire family goes out to pick coffee beans, and they also hire workers to help. One by one, the ripe, full coffee cherries, combined with the aroma of coffee after processing, create a moment when they know they've produced another impressive batch of fine coffee.
