Indonesia West Java Tiwus Tius

Region: Java

Processing Method: Wet-hulled method

Flavor Description: Rich textural layering changes, intense aroma, thick yet smooth mouthfeel, with tropical berries, black tea, toffee, and cocoa flavors

Java holds a leading position in Indonesia's coffee history. This is because as early as 1696 during the Dutch colonial period, Bandung was the initial coffee cultivation area for the VOC (Dutch East India Company). The climate here is pleasant, earning it the reputation as Indonesia's most beautiful city, known as the "Paris of Java." It's also the capital of West Java Province, which means that infrastructure is relatively more developed than other regions. With daily temperatures ranging between 26-30°C and semi-washed processing, the flavor is rich yet maintains a clean profile.

The beautiful Tiwus comes from small farmers in the picturesque Bandung mountain region, with harvest periods from May to August. Fresh coffee cherries are carefully selected and graded by farmers. After fermentation, they naturally eliminate impurities using water's buoyancy, then washed and produced in small batches. It offers rich textural layering changes, intense aroma, thick yet smooth mouthfeel, with tropical berries, black tea, toffee, and cocoa flavors.

Tiwus Coffee

Muryono, chairman of the Indonesian Coffee Exporters Association, said on July 19 in Semarang: "We sell three types of coffee, namely Tiwus, Perfecto, and Lestari coffee. We started selling two years ago, but only at Kedai Filosofi Kopi coffee shops in Yogyakarta and Jakarta. However, this year we began selling the above coffees to the general public."

He noted that although these are not yet classified as specialty coffees, they are gradually gaining recognition, and the flavor profiles are more stable. For example, Perfecto coffee tends toward caramel flavors, while Lestari has citrus notes. He said: "The above three coffees are sold in bean form and sourced from high-quality coffee from various regions in Indonesia. Lestari coffee originates from Bali coffee plantations, Perfecto coffee from Ijen, and Tiwus from West Java coffee plantations."

Previously, the monthly production of these three coffees reached only 200-300 kilograms. However, looking at the broadening sales market, he hopes to increase coffee production so that the entire nation can share in high-quality domestic coffee.
