Introduction to Costa Rica Tarrazu Coffee
When it comes to Costa Rican coffee, one cannot help but think of the famous Tarrazu growing region.
Tarrazu is located approximately 150 kilometers south of Costa Rica's capital, San Jose. It belongs to the Pacific-facing geographical divide within the country. In terms of climate, the dry and wet seasons are quite distinct, with annual rainfall of about 2000mm. Coupled with ample sunshine, coffee is grown at altitudes between 1200-1700 meters.
In terms of climate, it's an excellent environment for growing coffee. Therefore, the Tarrazu region is renowned for producing high-quality coffee, and the Dota area within this region is particularly outstanding.
This batch of Costa Rica Tarrazu coffee beans was roasted to about 1 minute and 30 seconds after the end of the first crack, making it a medium-roasted bean.
The dry aroma after grinding carries a scent somewhat similar to almonds, with a drupe-like quality. During the brewing process, you can smell a very delicate acidic aroma, somewhat reminiscent of apples.
Upon tasting, the acidity is not very noticeable - to me, it's almost imperceptible. Instead, there's a mouthfeel similar to high mountain tea that gradually unfolds the flavor, with a subtle honey-like sweetness in the finish.
As it cools, the apple-like acidic aroma begins to emerge, accompanied by brown sugar-like sweetness in the aftertaste.

In 1820, Costa Rican coffee was praised by British nobility as "The Golden Bean." The economic value of coffee beans to local residents was as valuable as gold, implying it could increase in value and generate profit. Laws were established mandating that only Arabica could be cultivated. Drinking coffee has become a daily ritual for Costa Rican residents. "Pura Vida" is a common expression among Costa Ricans, meaning "pure life" or "good life." Anyone who has tasted Costa Rican coffee exclaims with admiration: "Pura Vida"!
In 1502, Christopher Columbus discovered Costa Rica during his fourth voyage and named it Costa Rica, which in Spanish means "Rich Coast." It is one of Central America's finest coffee-producing countries. Excellent volcanic terrain provides Costa Rica with the most natural organic fertilizer. Fertile volcanic soil combined with cool climate produces the highest quality coffee. With mild chocolate aroma, sweet entry, balanced and clean profile, and bright mouthfeel, it has always been widely popular globally. S.H.B. stands for Strictly Hard Bean, the highest grade in Costa Rican coffee classification. It fully expresses the rich flavors of Costa Rican high-altitude coffee, combining fruit acidity and drupe notes, with an exceptionally clean and clear mouthfeel.
