Costa Rica - Tarrazu
When I began to delve deeper into understanding coffee, sometimes just getting to know the various names of coffee becomes an incredibly fascinating thing... Because coffee beans come from different countries around the world, and when these different cultural languages are translated into Chinese, reading them brings a particularly exotic charm, adding a touch of romance to the coffee tasting experience...
As you gradually come to recognize the flavor of a coffee, that name becomes like a familiar friend, rather than simply tasting it. Through flavor, you form a heartfelt connection... It always uses its unique characteristics to tell you where it comes from, who it is, allowing the drinker to entrust their mood to it in the process of mutual understanding...
So whenever I introduce a coffee, I always feel like I'm introducing a friend to everyone, because understanding the flavor of coffee is like understanding its personality, its soul. Some of its flavors always give me much inspiration... This sensibility has perhaps become my habit when tasting coffee! ^^
Today's friend I'm introducing is "Tarrazu" from Costa Rica. Beans from Central and South America always carry a unique nutty flavor. This taste, similar to almonds or cocoa, seems to have become a distinguishing characteristic of the entire Central and South American production region. Different countries present different proportions and qualities of this basic flavor... "Tarrazu" carries this foundation while having many subtle and diverse layers of flavor...
Costa Rica Tarrazu Coffee Experience
When hot, the Costa Rica Tarrazu coffee immediately coats the tongue and even the cheeks with oils after swallowing. The creamy aroma rises, like receiving a generous gift. This rich oil content is closely related to its high-altitude, extremely hard beans, because... it needs more oils to protect the seeds it nurtures...
Pour-Over Parameters Suggestion
Using a Key cup, 16 grams of coffee with 32 grams of water, steep for 30 seconds, extract with 89-90°C water, 1:15 ratio, medium-fine grind with Fuji 3.5. Second pour to 110ml, pause for water to drop, then slowly pour water again with even speed, water level not too high. Pour again to 233ml and stop. Extraction time 2:15 seconds — rich sun-dried sweetness, you can adjust according to your taste preference.
At medium temperature, fruit aroma, nutty flavor, and the fresh scent of grass after rain all emerge one by one, while the dark chocolate flavor becomes particularly distinct at this moment...
When cooled, the delicate fruity fragrance becomes even more subtle. The rising floral aroma emerges from within, while nuts and cocoa flavors, along with elegant floral notes, meander between the tongue and cheeks like a small stream in mountain forests...
After tasting, like other high-quality coffees, various flavors blend harmoniously. The nasal cavity is filled with a long-lasting aroma, and the mouth is coated with sweet aftertaste. This lingering finish is like the refreshing feeling after spending time with a kind-hearted friend...
Given the chance, get to know this friend "Tarrazu"! It won't disappoint you.
