Tarrazu: Costa Rica's Premier Coffee Region
Tarrazu is one of Costa Rica's eight major coffee-producing regions. In recent years, it has won Cup of Excellence awards. From cultivation to post-harvest processing, it demonstrates considerable technical expertise, making its future development highly anticipated!
The most renowned region among Costa Rica's producing areas is the Tarrazu district. Its unique and elegant aroma, bright yet gentle acidity, and mellow sweetness characterize it as premium quality coffee. The mild climate, mountainous rainfall, and fertile volcanic soil create ideal conditions for cultivating coffee with excellent, fresh flavors. Located near the Atlantic Caribbean coast with distinct wet and dry seasons and adequate sunshine, it's perfect for growing premium coffee. The beans have extremely high hardness and superior quality, producing coffee that is clear and bright with excellent body. The aftertaste features distinct fruity sweetness like cane sugar, with rich and delicate variations of berry acidity and nutty sweetness.
Flavor Profile
Costa Rica Tarrazu coffee features: clear acidity that is bright and rich, with an enduring aftertaste. Upon tasting, you'll experience intense nutty flavors with a dark chocolate cocoa finish, along with rich oils and a creamy texture, creating a rather full-bodied mouthfeel. Notably, it remains delicious even as the coffee cools. It possesses captivating special aromas; delicate flavors, fruity sweetness—worthy of your careful appreciation...
Flavor Notes: Fruit sweet and sour, berries, drupes, caramel, toasted almonds, creamed corn, vanilla, spices, sweet and bright.
Brewing Method
The popular Western-style stirring and blooming method is suitable for light-roasted Costa Rica Tarrazu coffee beans.
Western-style stirring method: During the blooming phase, use a stir stick to stir in a cross pattern. This is a variation of the three-stage method, a pour-over technique developed after 2012 World Brewers Cup champion Matt Perger. This approach effectively enhances the release of aromatic substances from coffee beans, amplifies the flavor advantages of coffee beans, and strengthens the coffee's mouthfeel, preventing it from being too thin.
As for brewing methods, pour-over and siphon brewing are optimal.
