What is Drip Bag Coffee?

Drip bag coffee is a patented design developed by the Japanese. The coffee grounds inside are sealed in a filter bag, with cardboard clips on both sides that can hang over a cup. After brewing, it can be discarded immediately, allowing you to enjoy ground coffee that tastes like drip-brewed coffee. Drip bag coffee is a type of instant-brew, fresh-ground coffee. At this point, you might think that drip coffee is similar to instant coffee, but this is actually a misconception. There are significant differences between drip bag coffee and instant coffee.

Instant Coffee vs. Drip Bag Coffee

Instant coffee is actually made by grinding roasted coffee beans under specific temperature and pressure conditions, extracting the effective components into water, and then drying the resulting product. The drying process is what forms instant coffee powder, and it's also the process that most significantly affects the quality of the coffee powder during processing. Currently, spray drying is commonly used, but because coffee's aromatic substances are highly heat-sensitive, they easily volatilize at higher drying temperatures (some volatilization already occurs during extraction and concentration). This is the main reason why instant coffee lacks the rich aroma of freshly ground coffee. Many times, the raw coffee beans used for instant coffee we drink are already of the lowest grade, unable to be sold separately as coffee beans, and can only be used for making instant coffee.

In contrast, drip bags fully preserve the unique aroma of each coffee bean, which is quite special. The coffee beans used are basically specialty coffee beans, and coffee is brewed using the drip method, perfectly expressing the acidity, sweetness, bitterness, richness, and aroma of the coffee. As long as you have access to hot water and a coffee cup, you can conveniently enjoy it. It's suitable for coffee enthusiasts traveling long distances or using it while on the road.

How to Brew Drip Bag Coffee

Below, we'll explain the steps for making coffee with drip bags:

Brewing Steps:

① Carefully open the packaging bag along the tear notch;

② After flattening the drip bag, tear open the sealed coffee powder packet. Spread the drip bag evenly and hang it over the mouth of your coffee cup;

③ Prepare a pot of boiling water (the recommended water temperature for brewing coffee is between 85°C-95°C). Purified water is recommended. After the water boils, let it sit for about 1 minute before pouring. When pouring the hot water, evenly pour hot water into the filter bag (note that the speed shouldn't be too fast and the water flow shouldn't be too large to avoid overflow). After the liquid level in the filter bag drops, pour again. When the coffee liquid in the cup reaches about 7/10 full, or according to personal preference, carefully remove and discard the drip bag.

④ Drink the delicious drip bag coffee immediately after brewing is complete. You can also add sugar or pure milk for flavoring according to personal preference. (For single-origin specialty coffees, we recommend drinking directly to avoid additives affecting the unique characteristics of the single-origin coffee);

⑤ To ensure the perfect flavor expression of each coffee, we recommend using each bag only once before discarding.
