What is Robusta Coffee?
Robusta coffee beans are one of the world's main coffee varieties. The Robusta tree is suitable for growing in low-altitude areas, particularly thriving at elevations of 200-300 meters. It has excellent resistance to high-temperature tropical climates, strong disease resistance, and can grow quickly with abundant yield without requiring much care. Its cultivation range is wide, accounting for approximately 20-30% of world production.
Robusta coffee beans have a relatively simple flavor profile, typically presenting a strong bitter taste after roasting. They have weak aroma, lack fruit acidity, and their bitter taste is much stronger than Arabica coffee beans. The price is also lower than Arabica. The caffeine content is 2-3 times that of Arabica coffee beans. Most inexpensive Robusta beans are used to produce instant coffee or canned coffee.
Robusta coffee trees are mainly produced in Indonesia, Vietnam, and Africa. They are a species between shrubs and tall trees, with longer leaves and bright green color. The tree can reach up to 10 meters in height but has shallow roots. The fruit is slightly rounder and smaller than Arabica coffee fruit, with flat and round beans that are brown in color.

They are chosen for their rich flavor and texture, with strong bitterness and low acidity, providing thickness and concentration to the coffee. The caffeine concentration is approximately twice that of Arabica varieties, making it a major cause of palpitations, chest tightness, and stomach pain. At the same time, considering cost reduction, many dark-roasted Italian coffee formulations mix in varying proportions of Robusta coffee beans to achieve the golden intersection of taste and profit balance.
