Caturra Coffee Variety

Caturra, varietal Caturra, Coffea arabica var. caturra.

Caturra coffee was first discovered in 1937 in São Paulo state, Brazil, as a natural mutation of Bourbon. It is now widely cultivated in Central and South American production areas such as Brazil and Colombia.

Main Characteristics:

  • Higher yield compared to Bourbon varieties.
  • Coffee cherries are less likely to fall off during wind and rain.
  • Relatively short plants, making them easy to harvest.
  • Coffee trees require careful care and adequate fertilization.
  • Strong environmental adaptability, performing better at altitudes of 1500-5500 feet with annual rainfall of 2500-3500mm.
  • The higher the altitude, the more outstanding the cupping performance, while the yield decreases.
  • Enhanced resistance to pests and diseases, but still susceptible to infestation.
  • Inherits many characteristics from Bourbon varieties, with larger leaves and wavy-edged leaves.
  • Many new varieties have been derived from Caturra, such as Pacas.
