Can Used Coffee Bags Be Re-brewed?
Some friends have shared that their coffee is too aromatic, and they and their mothers feel it's a waste to throw away after just one brew, so they extract it two or three times until there's no flavor left.
Hand-pour extraction typically extracts about 70% on the first brew, while the remaining 30% can actually be extracted a second time, though the extraction water temperature and drinking method will differ.
However, this approach is only recommended for higher quality Yirgacheffe coffee beans.
Sharing Second Brew Drinking Method
Yirgacheffe coffee beans emit the spicy aroma of citrus fruit peels with a hint of green tea fragrance.
Due to coffee varieties and local conditions in Ethiopia's Yirgacheffe region, enzymes produce high concentrations of aromatic aldehyde compounds during metabolism, creating charming floral aromas similar to jasmine and passion fruit. The flavor is light and delicate with bright color—very subtle contrast between the mature fruit honey aroma in the nose and the tea-like refreshing taste in the mouth.
After brewing a rich hot Yirgacheffe and savoring the different flavors at various temperatures, you can try this method.
Note: The following demonstration uses drip bag filter paper, but both conical and trapezoidal filter papers are suitable.
About Filter Bag Material
This material is called biodegradable non-woven filter bags.
The inner membrane of drip bags has a mesh-like filtering layer, and these holes help to均匀化 the speed of coffee flow.
When hot water permeates through the coffee grounds, it extracts their essence and oils, and finally the coffee liquid seeps out evenly through the filter holes.
Grind Size
Based on this design, the grind size shouldn't be too fine—approximately sugar crystal size.
There's also another type of bag coffee on the market, similar to tea bags. It involves grinding freshly roasted coffee beans and packaging them by cup portion in disposable filter bags to create convenient coffee packets. The material is similar to tea bags—mostly non-woven fabric, gauze, etc.—which requires soaking.
Freshness Check
When you open the coffee bag, you can still smell the coffee aroma, indicating the coffee is fresh.
Brewing Steps
After flattening the drip bag, tear open the sealed coffee powder package.
Evenly spread open the drip bag and hang it on the rim of your coffee cup.
Drip coffee must be hung up for brewing!
Let me emphasize here—drip bags also require a proper coffee-to-water ratio. For example, one 10g drip bag with 150ml water. Try to use a shallower cup, for instance:
Water Temperature
Friends who drink drip coffee may not have access to freshly boiled water or find it convenient to measure temperature. Water from general water dispensers is typically 83-90°C, which meets the requirements. If the water is too hot (over 95°C), pour it into another cup and wait 30-60 seconds before brewing.
First Water Pour for Blooming
Special attention should be paid to the first water pour for blooming—simply understood as first letting water wet all the coffee grounds, then stopping pouring and waiting 10-40 seconds to open the door to coffee flavors.
Complete the four steps: tear, hang, brew, and remove.
A cup of warm, aromatic coffee is ready!

Can Black Coffee Really Help with Weight Loss?
Whether it's a beautiful morning or a leisurely afternoon, modern people often enjoy a cup of coffee. Besides refreshing the mind, sipping the fragrant aroma also helps relax the mood. Additionally, it can help with weight loss—girls who can slim down naturally feel better too. Can black coffee really help with weight loss? The answer is yes, it does have weight loss promoting effects, mainly from the following aspects:
Black Coffee Breaks Down Fat
Careful observers will notice that weight loss supplements all contain one ingredient—caffeine. Caffeine increases the concentration of free fatty acids in the blood, converting them to an easily supplyable energy form, thereby accelerating fat breakdown and consuming them through participation in the body's metabolic process.
Key Point: Note that energy is consumed through participation in the body's metabolic process. This means drinking black coffee needs to be combined with exercise to achieve fat burning effects.
Black Coffee Reduces Water Retention
Many people's obesity is water retention type obesity, caused by fluid retention in the body, which becomes more obvious with age. Caffeine has diuretic effects, can increase urine output, and eliminate excess water from the body, thereby reducing water retention.
Key Point: It's generally recommended to reduce water retention in the morning.建议大家 drink coffee during or after breakfast, avoiding on an empty stomach.
Black Coffee Accelerates Metabolism
Compared to high-fiber foods, coffee is a faster and gentler laxative that helps eliminate retained waste. It's effective for at least one-third of people, with more noticeable effects in women. Studies have found that just 4 minutes after drinking coffee, colon movement begins to strengthen.
Key Point: This effect of promoting gastrointestinal motility is strongest in the morning and becomes very weak at night.
Black Coffee Promotes Exercise
One of the main ingredients in pre-workout supplements used by strength trainers is caffeine. Similarly, black coffee can also improve exercise endurance and strength. Everyone's sensitivity to caffeine varies—caffeine promotes exercise, but it's not guaranteed to work for everyone.
Best Times to Drink Coffee for Weight Loss
Drink 1 cup of black coffee after breakfast, without sugar and creamer.
Drink 1 cup of black coffee 30 minutes to 1 hour after lunch to aid digestion and promote fat burning.
Drink another cup of coffee before getting off work, then walk home or walk one more stop before taking transportation, or combine with appropriate exercise.
Hot coffee consumes more body heat than iced coffee.
Making an iced coffee this summer is also great!
Here's the tutorial:
Drip Bag Iced Latte
Ingredients
Drip bag coffee: 1 bag
Hot water: 100ml
Fresh milk: 100ml
1:10 ratio
Use a narrow-spouted or gooseneck pour-over kettle.
Slowly pour the coffee liquid directly onto an ice cube, very very slowly.
Materials:
① Once-brewed Yirgacheffe drip bag coffee
② Approximately 90°C hot water 160-200cc (adjust strength according to personal preference)
After opening the drip bag, slightly organize the coffee grounds (the bottom part) and loosen the powder by tapping in your palm.
Pour in hot water and let bloom for 30 seconds.
After blooming, continue to slowly pour hot water at the center point.
After dripping is complete, remove the drip bag—hot version finished.
Enjoy the charming floral aroma of hot Yirgacheffe—similar to jasmine and passion fruit scents, light and delicate with bright color. The subtle contrast between the mature fruit honey aroma in the nose and the tea-like refreshing taste in the mouth is wonderful.
Rest for a moment, and when you start feeling thirsty, let's brew "coffee tea-like" cold tea (iced coffee)!
Materials:
① Appropriate amount of ice cubes
② Approximately 60°C warm water 150-180cc (can also adjust according to your preferred strength)
Place ice cubes in the pot, hang the drip bag, and directly add warm water at the same flow rate—that's it! Very simple!
This extracts a light floral and fruity "coffee tea-like" fragrance without bitterness.
Let your taste buds experience different levels and richer "Ethiopia Yirgacheffe" regional flavors. After the rich taste experience (first cup), enter a different flavor spectrum (second cup), completely enjoying the characteristics of this specialty coffee bean, subverting traditional imagination about coffee.
