Coffee Details

Country: Ethiopia

Estate: Baraka Cooperative

Region: Kaffa Forest

Variety: Ethiopia Heirloom

Processing: Washed

Harvest Period: Arrived in 2016

Cupping Notes:

This is a very special coffee, and it's difficult for us to know its exact origin. We only know that it's roughly produced from the remote "Kaffa" forests of Ethiopia.

The coffee forest is studied as the birthplace of coffee, located in the western and southwestern regions. It is said that in these forests, there are still tens of thousands of undiscovered coffee varieties.

This batch is essentially harvested directly by coffee farmers from the forest, or farmers select small patches of wild coffee and manually care for them to increase coffee production.

The ground dry aroma is very unique, with delicate sweetness, honey whole wheat biscuits and cinnamon, with slight floral notes. After adding hot water, the wet aroma transforms into toffee, jasmine tea, and roasted hazelnuts. This creates a very interesting combination of aromas.

In the cup, it's clean with wild notes, bright with tea-like qualities, Earl Grey and black tea. It performs very well-balanced in all aspects, with a creamy body, melon sweetness, and citrus acidity—a very interesting coffee indeed.

The Origin of Ethiopian Coffee

The most primitive Kaffa wild jungle in Ethiopia,

The coffee trees planted in the jungle are all part of the wild forest ecosystem,

naturally growing under the protection of rainforest trees,

while fallen branches and leaves serve as the best natural organic fertilizer.

Many people believe Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee,

because the first coffee tree was discovered in ancient "Abyssinia,"

which is present-day Ethiopia. The region where these trees flower is called "Kaffa,"

and the trees are called "Kafa," which might be the most original pronunciation of coffee.
