How are Ecuadorian coffee beans grown? What are the characteristics of Ecuadorian coffee beans?

Ecuador's western border faces the Pacific Ocean, with the eastern region near the coast consisting of plains, while the central area has higher elevations. Among these, the 6,310-meter-high Chimborazo Mountain, part of the Andes Mountains, is an extinct volcano. Besides being the country's highest point (6,267 meters above sea level), it is also the farthest point from the Earth's center on the planet's surface. This is one of the few countries in South America that produces both Arabica and Robusta coffee. The Andes Mountains in the southern region are the world's highest-altitude Arabica coffee growing area, producing large, heavy beans, with coffee harvested in early June each year being considered among the best-tasting in the world. However, as land suitable for Arabica cultivation decreases, Robusta coffee production increases year by year. The Loja province in southern Ecuador is the world's highest-altitude coffee growing region.

Shade-grown coffee

Shade-grown coffee is cultivated by maintaining the original ecological appearance and not disrupting the ecosystem, allowing coffee to be interplanted with different tree species and crops in coffee plantations, creating what looks like a small-scale forest reserve. For Ecuador, located on the equator, ecological conservation is significant because coffee farmers don't need to cut down trees - coffee trees play the role of tree species in the middle of this shaded terrace system, preserving more habitats for birds and other creatures. Because coffee trees are shaded by other tall tree species, the coffee beans generally develop richer, more mellow flavors. For consumers, this represents a good choice that both protects the ecosystem and allows enjoyment of delicious coffee.

Ecuadorian Coffee Beans - Galapagos Turtle Island Coffee - Organic Certification

In Spanish, "Galapagos" means "turtle," and the islands are famous for their Galapagos giant tortoises.

The Galapagos Islands of Ecuador are recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage site of humanity.

Cultivated without any chemical fertilizers, in volcanic soil perfectly suited for coffee growing, and under the shade of tall trees.

Harvested by hand-picking, selecting only coffee cherries with optimal ripeness.

Coffee cherries are placed in eco-friendly pulping machines to remove the outer fruit skin, with the removed skin reused as natural fertilizer.

This process produces extremely precious organic specialty coffee.
