Ecuador: The Hidden Gem of South American Coffee

Located between Colombia and Peru in South America, Ecuador has a long history of coffee cultivation. The Loja region in southern Ecuador, nestled adjacent to the Andes Mountains, is one of the highest coffee-growing regions in the world and serves as an important coffee export city for the country.

Coffee cultivation here is predominantly shade-grown using natural methods. The high altitude, favorable climate variations, and excellent soil quality create ideal conditions for coffee growth, providing numerous superior cultivation conditions for coffee plants.

Ecuador Country Profile

Population: 15,224,000

Ecuadorian coffee is gaining prominence in the specialty coffee industry. While low-lying areas are unlikely to produce high-quality coffee, the higher altitude regions show tremendous potential.

GALAPAGOS: Paradise Coffee

The Galapagos Islands produce limited quantities of coffee, whose supporters claim that the climate simulates higher altitudes, allowing for the cultivation of higher-quality coffee. Such coffee can be very expensive, and the price may not always reflect the quality.

Altitude: 350m

Harvest: June-September and December-February

Variety: Bourbon

Located in northwestern South America, Ecuador yields excellent agricultural crops with plump coffee beans that have won coffee championship titles. The flavor resembles preserved plums with intense acidity. When enjoyed with sugar and milk, it presents a sweet, smooth, and remarkably interesting taste profile.

Ecuador Galapagos Islands

Located on the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, "Galapagos" means turtle in Spanish, hence the islands are also known as Turtle Island. This coffee bean is Old Bourbon variety, 100% organic, shade-grown under tall trees, and situated in volcanic mountain ranges. The coffee trees here receive a perfect balance of sunshine and rainfall, and the appropriate altitude provides excellent flavor and aroma.

Every Ecuadorian coffee bean is carefully hand-picked, harvesting only the freshest, ripest cherries. These are processed at our ecological wet mill using the island's unique spring water. The cherries are placed in an environmentally-friendly depulping machine where we select only the best cherries for processing and decomposition, with byproducts being reintroduced to the cultivation areas as natural fertilizer.
