Introduction to Ecuador Coffee

Compared to bananas, oil, and shrimp, Ecuadorian coffee beans have never been listed as a major economic source. Ecuador's most famous Galapagos Islands are home to the native giant turtle species discovered by Darwin. Designated as "World Cultural and Natural Heritage" by UNESCO, the islands strictly prohibit the use of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and all other chemical products. Combined with dense year-round fog and limited access by outsiders, sailors refer to these islands as the Devil's Islands.

This coffee is filled with tea-like aromas, very pleasant and delightful, with light acidity and delicate mouthfeel. The cocoa notes at the finish remind me of unspoiled Kona coffee from years past. This coffee has few competitors among island beans when lightly roasted.

Cupping notes: Clean, delicate, and fresh. The tea-like quality that emerges after brewing is something I truly appreciate, with a subtle genmai tea fragrance.

Ecuador's Coffee Growing History

Located between Colombia and Peru in South America, Ecuador has a long history of coffee cultivation.

Loja Region

The Loja region in southern Ecuador, adjacent to the Andes Mountains, is one of the highest coffee-growing regions in the world, with elevations ranging from 1,450-2,000 meters. It is also an important coffee export city for the country. The coffee variety is Typica, processed using the washed method, and predominantly grown under natural shade cultivation. The local high altitude, climate variations, and soil quality are all excellent for coffee growth, providing numerous optimal conditions for coffee cultivation.

Galapagos Islands

Located in Ecuadorian waters in South America, directly below the equator, these are mysterious and enchanting island groups. The Galapagos Islands are home to many endemic species found nowhere else, declared by UNESCO as "World Cultural and Natural Heritage."

Therefore, laws strictly prohibit the import or use of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, or any other chemical products.

Certified by OCIA and Rainforest Alliance for organic shade-grown cultivation, combined with the island's unique climatology, this creates aromatic and full-bodied coffee.

Galapagos coffee is like a pearl among specialty coffees, rarely possessing both floral aromatics and rich body simultaneously. With floral and fruit-like sweetness and aftertaste, its flavor profile is completely comparable to the renowned Jamaican Blue Mountain and Hawaiian Kona coffees.
