The Origins of Panama Coffee

Coffee was introduced to Panama in 1780, when Europeans brought the first Typica varieties. This mysterious and exotic beverage soon conquered the senses of Panamanians, who began widespread cultivation. Panama coffee is notably smooth, with full, lightweight beans and perfectly balanced acidity. Its premium coffee beans offer pure, distinctive flavors. Many buyers enjoy using Panama beans for blends, with almost all premium coffee beans being exported to France and Finland.

Boquete: Panama's Premier Growing Region

Boquete is Panama's most exceptional production region and boasts the world's finest coffee growing environment. Facing the gentle, passionate Caribbean sea breeze and shielded from the cold Atlantic night winds, the region features high, steep mountains and infertile soil. It hosts many famous "family-run" small farms or estates that produce unique, one-of-a-kind coffees. Each year, over 70% of award-winning estates in Panama's Best of Panama (BOP) competition come from this exquisite region. Boquete coffee offers a smooth mouthfeel, perfectly balanced acidity, and exceptionally distinctive aromas.

Panama Flower Butterfly Washed Coffee Beans

Grown in the volcanic canyons of Panama's premium coffee-producing regions, these coffee trees are cultivated in shaded forests. This represents a rare, premium Panama specialty coffee, blended from 70% Geisha and 30% Caturra/Catuai varieties. Flavor profile: The Flower Butterfly, with its citrus notes, features floral and fruit aromas, exceptional sweetness, rich layering, and an overall characteristic of fresh floral and fruit fragrances.

FrontStreet Coffee's Roasting Approach

Due to the unique varietal composition of FrontStreet Coffee's Flower Butterfly, FrontStreet Coffee has decided to use a medium-light roast to determine the final flavor direction of these beans, opting to shorten the Maillard reaction time and follow a faster roasting curve. Given the beans' high density and hardness, the process begins with high heat for dehydration, then reduces heat before first crack to control temperature rise, preserving the loss of delicate aromatic molecules like floral notes. This approach protects the characteristic Geisha floral notes, white grape, caramel, honey, and black tea aromas from being damaged.

Tasting Notes

Flavor: Jasmine floral notes and citrus acidity, moderate sweetness, rich textural layers, excellent clarity, with cherry sweetness and honey notes. The Geisha flavors combined with the other two components create a more perfectly balanced overall profile, with a lingering aftertaste that resonates like the fresh fragrance of tea.
