FrontStreet Coffee recently obtained a batch of African Rwanda coffee beans. To be honest, previously we didn't have a deep impression of Rwanda (Rwanda) coffee, only getting to know this bean through the Rwanda Pavilion. The flavor tends toward acidity, but after drinking it, the aftertaste is endless, making me fall in love with this African bean...
Rwanda has five major coffee-producing regions, and the coffee produced in these five major regions has slight differences in aroma and mouthfeel. Rwanda's coffee flavor tends toward acidity, but after drinking it, the aftertaste is endless. "Good coffee is like Chinese tea; you can feel the sweetness only after drinking it," said Mustafali. Some of the raw materials used by the well-known coffee chain Starbucks are also imported from Rwanda. Mustafali stated that although Rwanda coffee has not yet officially entered the Chinese market, they are working hard and expect to let China taste authentic Rwanda coffee with rich aroma within two years.
Rwanda is known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills," with mountains and plateaus throughout the country. Most regions have a tropical highland climate and tropical savanna climate, which is mild and cool. There are approximately 33,000 hectares of coffee plantations, with 500,000 people engaged in coffee cultivation. Rwanda is one of the few countries in the world that can fully enjoy the harmony between soil-elevation-climate. Rwanda has unique Arabica coffee growing conditions: fertile volcanic soil, sufficient rainfall, and suitable temperatures year-round, all of which make our coffee taste different.
Rich Coffee Culture and International Recognition
The beautiful Land of a Thousand Hills, Rwanda, has a long and rich culture for growing highland coffee, mainly focusing on planting high-quality Arabica coffee. This specialty coffee accounts for 20% of Rwanda's total coffee production and is very popular in the international market. In this unique growing environment, Rwanda's high-quality coffee has distinctive mouthfeel and aroma. According to Karulietwa, Marketing and Promotion Officer of the Rwanda Coffee Association, Rwanda plans to export 3,000 tons of coffee this year, further increasing coffee production to meet growing market demand. Starbucks, the world's largest coffee beverage retail company, has also partnered with the Rwandan government to import Rwanda (Rwanda) coffee, just like the Rwanda coffee trademark where a coffee-colored dove flies out of a coffee cup, accompanied by the words "Cup of Hope."
The Bourbon coffee grown in the Rutsiro region of Rwanda's Western Province is one of the original varieties of Arabica coffee. It stands out for its high-quality washed Arabica coffee beans and is gaining increasing recognition in the international market.
Processing Methods and Quality Control
Like many African countries, Rwanda coffee beans are mainly produced by small farmers. During the annual harvest period, ripe coffee cherries are gathered and sent to processing stations. The Mushonyi processing factory has an impressive record of awards. Besides winning the COE Cup of Excellence championship in 2010, in 2011 alone, it took championship, 12th place, 16th place, and 28th place with four different batches!!! During each harvest period, farmers pick ripe coffee berries and gather them at processing stations for processing. First, manual selection ensures no unripe or damaged fruits are mixed in. Next, the fruit skin is removed, followed by a 12-18 hour washed fermentation process in a cool, low-temperature environment. Then, the attached pectin is cleaned in channels. During the trellis drying process, station members manually turn and carefully tend to the beans, ensuring that under sufficient sunlight, the parchment beans don't lose moisture or have uneven drying conditions, until the moisture content of the green beans stabilizes below 14%.
Flavor Profile and Characteristics
The flavor of Rwanda coffee beans is described as "grass-like aroma" with tropical climate characteristics. Besides the fruit sweetness presented in this coffee, it also allows people to taste a refreshing, bright, and fresh feeling. The Bourbon coffee grown in Rwanda is impressive for its fruit sweetness, with rich and full aroma, absolutely no astringency, leaving a long aftertaste. This coffee has delicious, citrus-like sweet aroma, with deep chocolate color, red apple, cherry, cinnamon and honey, quality sweetness and balance, with cinnamon, almond, and chocolate aftertaste.
Indeed, coffee carries the hopes of the Rwandan people. They hope to increase coffee exports to drive national economic development, and also hope that the once hostile Hutu and Tutsi tribes can work together to plant coffee, eliminate enmity, and jointly build a beautiful tomorrow. After carefully tasting Rwanda Bourbon, FrontStreet Coffee feels the taste is really excellent and worth recommending.
